Do you have a wooden table in your office or home that is faded? You should consider refinishing it. To guide you here are the steps that you should follow to refinish your wooden table:
Identify Lumps and Bumps
You should start by scanning the tabletop for any lumps and bumps. After identifying the bumps you should use an electric sander to sand down the tabletop and make it as smooth as possible. Once you are through with the tabletop you should move to the legs.
If the table is painted you should remove it using an electric sander. You should note that even if you sand the table with an electric sander you will still need to sand the corners using your hand. You should note that it’s always good to over-sand than to under-sand.
Once you have sanded the table you should apply a thin paint of stain using a paintbrush. You can choose any color you want and then apply a very fine coat. To prevent the table from appearing cheap you should avoid applying cheap paint. You should also avoid applying the most expensive paint as it’s not worth it. After applying the paint you should wait for 48 hours for it to dry.
Smooth It Out
Once the table is dry, you should lightly smooth-out the areas that you might have over-applied the paint. You should then apply the second coat. For ideal results, you should ensure that the second coat is a little bit thicker than the first one. You should be cautious and ensure that the second coat is even. After this, you should allow the table 24-48 hours to dry.
Protect the Table
To protect the table you should apply two coats of polyurethane finish. The good thing is that there are many types of polyurethane finishes that you can go with. For example, you can go with satin or glossy finishes. For ideal results, you should allow one finish to dry completely before you apply the next. You should then sand the table lightly using 200-grit sandpaper. You can also use a fine steel wool.
